UPDATE
TOM QUILTY GOLD CUP 2007
28-30th
September at Tumbulgum Farm,
WA.
The
2007 Tom Quilty Gold Cup will run as scheduled
Participation in this event will be
subject to all rules, regulations and advice from the State Chief Veterinary
Officers and government agencies, with respect to movement of horses,
personnel, and gear and the control of the spread of Equine Influenza.
As of 31st August, there is a
general standstill of horse movement within Australia, but several states are
now permitting some movement. However, the border into WA is currently closed
to all horses (including air transport), and while the situation develops with
continuing cases in the eastern states, we anticipate that the border may
remain closed for the next month at least. This ban also applies to bringing
any horse-related gear that may have been in contact with other horses.
Interstate competitors who wish to attend will need to seek advice and permits
from the relevant state and national government agencies to allow their travel
into WA.
Equine influenza is an extremely
contagious disease, and people and gear can be a source of infection. Therefore
there are also stringent biosecurity requirements for any people intending to
come into the state, and if you are intending to come, you should make sure you
comply with all these requirements.
The running of the event will be
contingent on the current EI situation remaining or improving. Further
infections and spread of the disease may result in further lock-down of all
horse movement.
The websites for the WA
Department of Agriculture and for Racing and Wagering WA
have continued updates and information on biosecurity procedures for entry into
WA.
